Art Projects Gallery proudly presents the latest works of Lewis Lau Yin To in a solo exhibition titled “Facade”. Lau’s art practice focuses on depicting the current state of his life in Hong Kong, and by extension, a personal reflection of the physical and philosophical realities of the city. In a constant search to overcome the numbness he has felt about his existence, Lau looks to painting as an avenue of escape and rediscovery.
Lewis’s figurative style of painting with a vivid colour palette and the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated subjects and alienated settings, create intriguing scenes that project a sense of surreal ambiguity and absurdity. Through the blurring of reality with distant memories, Lau hopes to conjure a stimulant for the soul and indulge into what may be to the artist, a sense of tranquility along the fine line between the present and the uncertain future.
“Living in a contemporary city life, Lewis reflects the meaning of living with painting as an only way of escape, the way of numb. As he has written,
When facing moments of numbness;
When facing the absurd present,
I wander the city,
Trying to find a stimulant for the soul amid the scenery;
Trying to find a future amongst memories.

Lewis Lau Yin To (1988), graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with a M.F.A (2012) and B.A (2009). Lau has participated in various exhibitions in Hong Kong with his hyper-realistic style of work.
藝途畫廊榮幸呈本地藝術家劉彥韜的個人展覽《幻境》，劉氏的創作圍繞自身的日常生活，以繪畫回應一種荒謬的日常。藝術家的創作融合古典繪畫的造型及具表現力的色彩，營造出一種荒誕氣氛。作品開啓了藝術家在自身創作上的可能性，卻不失其筆下細膩的描繪。
同時，在面對壓抑的生活下，劉氏的創作以詩意的方式回應身邊的事物，藝術家寫道
面對令人麻目的生活，
面對著令人荒誕的當刻，
藉著游走在城市的角落，
企圖舊城中找到刺激靈魂的麻醉劑，
企圖在回憶中找到未來。
有一刻，仿佛能夠沉醉於現實和理想落差之間的一小片寂靜和安慰。
從文本與作品中隱含著藝術家自身對生活的孤獨感，從作品中疏落的風景畫；以至三人同行卻形同陌路情景，都營造著一種被異化者的意象。並透過繪畫來抒發對城市的感受。
劉彥韜（1988), 2009年畢業香港中文大學主修藝術 , 2012年取得藝術碩士，劉氏的具象繪畫作品曾在各大展覽中展出。
